5:15 pm: First it was with the bat, then the ball, India have thoroughly dominated this Test. Handy contributions from the lower order propelled the visitors to 600 and they extended their dominance with a good bowling performance, leaving Sri Lanka reeling at 154 for 5 at stumps on Day 2. Only Mathews remains a thorn in India’s path at the moment. Whether the former Sri Lanka captain continues his act of defiance is a story for Day 3. Join us tomorrow.
5:00 pm: The former Sri Lanka Test skipper brings up a fighting half-century, his first as a non-captain since December 2012.
Cricket Score of India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test Day 2:
4:50 pm: Sri Lanka have lost half their side and it’s Mukund, who’s having a brilliant time on the field, central to the dismissal of Dickwella. Pushing at an Ashwin delivery, the ball pops to the right of Mukund at silly-point and the fielder takes a one-handed blinder. Sri Lanka reeling at 143 for 5. They are effectively 143 for 6 considering Gunaratne’s injury.
4: 37 pm: It’s not yet October 1, when the new rules will be in effect. As of now, if the bat bounces after crossing the crease and is in the air, the batsman in question is ruled run out. That is exactly what happened to Tharanga, with some sharp work from Mukund and Saha. The opener departs for 64, leaving Sri Lanka struggling at 125 for 4
4:30 pm: The partnership has crossed fifty even as the spinners have been probing at the batsmen, asking several questions. Sri Lanka are 121 for 3.
4: 15 pm: Bowling from round the wicket, Ashwin is getting drift across the right-hander and turn as well. Mathews plays all over an offbreak and is struck below the kneeroll in front of middle. Kohli takes Saha’s word and goes for the DRS. The ball-tracker showed the ball to be clipping the bails and the onfield call was withheld.
4:00 pm: Upul Tharanga is fighting back India’s bowling attack and is supported by Angelo Mathews.
3:35 pm: Meanwhile, Tharanga registers a 44-ball 50, getting there with a boundary off Ashwin. The veteran pair of Tharanga and Mathews is key for Sri Lanka if they are to fight back.
3:29 pm: Kusal Mendis feels at a delivery outside off and departs without scoring. Caught Dhawan, bowled Shami – Part 2. Sri Lanka 68 for 3.
3:27 pm: Gunathilaka’s outing comes to an end in the 15th over. The batsman wafted at a Shami delivery outside off and edged it to Dhawan at first slip. End of a 61-run stand, Sri Lanka are 68 for 2.
3:15 PM: After the end of 13 overs Team Sri Lanka is trailing by 536 runs and has 9 wickets in hand.

2:54 PM: India had scored 600 runs in 133.1 overs in the first innings, Sri Lanka are currently trailing by 562 runs at the time of the tea break.
2:44 PM: Tharanga and Gunathilaka have done a good job of keeping the Indian bowlers at bay and they have done so with some positive batting. They have scored seven boundaries between them in an unbeaten stand worth 31 runs to take Sri Lanka to 38 for 1 at Tea. The hosts though have a mountain to climb.
2:38 pm: Sri Lanka are now 38 for 1 after 7 overs.
2:16 pm: Umesh Yadav traps Karunaratne plumb in front in the second over. Not only have Sri Lanka lost a wicket, they have also lost a review in the process. Not sure what Tharanga advised his partner but there was only one way the ball was headed, which replays later confirmed. Sri Lanka are 71 for 1.
2:10 pm: Sri Lanka starts their chase for the mammoth total of 600 set by India.
1:37 pm: End of Shami’s useful knock as he holes out to Tharanga at deep square-leg while trying to hit Kumara out of the park. End of a 62-run partnership which came in under 9 overs. India are 579 for 9
1:27 pm: Some good hitting from Shami and Pandya, who have taken the aggressive approach with a flurry of fours and sixes. India have crossed 550 in 125 overs. Since the dropped catch of Pandya, India have scored 46 runs in six overs.
1:08 pm: A perfect full length delivery and Jadeja has no answers to it as he is bowled. The umpires check to see whether Pradeep has overstepped before sending the batsman back. India are 517 for 8. Best figures for Pradeep in first-class cricket.
12:47 pm: Jadeja started the inning after lunch with a boundry off Pradeep off the first ball of the post-lunch session. In the next over, playing away from his body to a Herath delivery that spun away, Pandya got an outside edge before being a straightforward chance was put down by Karunaratne at first slip.
11:58 am: A short ball does the trick for Pradeep, who pickd up his maiden five-wicket haul by dismissing Ashwin for 47. The batsman tried to go for the pull, but ended up handing a catch to the keeper. India are 495 for 7
11:56 am: And now its Ashwin who fell prey to Sri Lankan skipper Rangana Herath’s delivery.
11:49 am: The debutant Hardik Pandya now walks in. The all-rounder is known for his big shots and the cricketing world got a glimpse of it during Champions Trophy final
11:44 am: Trying to take on Herath brought about Saha’s downfall as he finds Perera at mid-on. He departed for 16, bringing an end to a 59-run partnership for the sixth wicket. India are 491 for 6.
11:42 am: Another wicket for Sri Lanka and this time it is Wriddhiman Saha.
11: 37 am: Despite his struggles against Kumara, Saha has managed to hang on and help Ashwin in building a steady partnership. Their stand has now crossed 50, taking India closer to the 500 mark.
11:26 am: India looking to score 500 runs before lunch.
11:11 am: R Ashwin 31(36) and Wriddhiman Saha 5 (16) at the crease. Ashwin on one hand is playing some big knocks and sending the ball all around the ground, Saha is taking his time to settle down before playing big.
10:50 am: In another blow, Ajinkya Rahane becomes prey to Lahiru Kumara. Rahane walke dtowards the pavillion 57 runs in 130 deliveries.
10:40 am: A fine delivery from Pradeep brings about Pujara’s downfall, ending a 137-run fourth-wicket stand. The batsman was lured into pushing at a delivery outside off and paid for it as he edged it to the keeper to depart for a fine 153. India are 423 for 4.
10:30 am: After a couple of tight overs, Rahane gets going with a cracking drive through the off-side off Pradeep. In his next over, the pacer errs in his line and Pujara flicks it fine on the leg-side for a four that helps him bring up his 150 – the 6th time he has scored 150 or more in his Test career out of his 12 three-figure scores. That’s some conversion rate. Rahane gets to his fifty soon after, with a fine boundary off Herath.
10:03 am: A single for Rahane off Dilruwan Perera off the first ball of Day 2 helps India reach the 400 mark. India now 404/3 after 92 overs.
9:38 am: Virat Kohli and team have been warming up for Day 2. Cheteshwar Pujara 144(247) and Ajinkya Rahane will open the batting for India.
