Sunrisers Hyderabad increased its chances of making it to the playoffs on Sunday night as it defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by a convincing margin of 48 runs thanks to an astonishing knock by captain David Warner. During the second innings of the match, KKR’s senior batsman Robin Uthappa got engaged in an ugly incident with SRH’s young fast bowler Siddharth Kaul. On the last ball of the third over of KKR’s innings, Uthappa smashed Kaul for a four through mid-wicket.
Watch the incident here:
While the fast bowler was returning to his run-up, Uthappa shouldered him and appeared to have uttered some verbal volleys as well that were not received well by the bowler. Even though umpire S Ravi intervened, Uthappa looked very angry which forced Yuvraj Singh to act as a peacemaker. The match was stopped after a few hours due to rain and while the teams were going back to the dressing room, Yuvraj was seen talking to Uthappa and even put his arm around his shoulder. Yuvraj is Siddharth Kaul’s teammate in Punjab’s domestic side and shares a good bond with the young pacer.
Even though Robin Uthappa scored a brisk half-century, his 28-ball 53-run knock was not sufficient to save his side from losing. Meanwhile, David Warner scored a 59-ball 126 which helped his side to their highest IPL total, 210 for three wickets which it successfully defended. For KKR, who are sitting pretty at the top of the table, none of the bowlers could make any impression as they were taken to the cleaners by Warner. Opening the innings, Warner put KKR bowlers to the sword as he along with Dhawan amassed 79-0 in the Powerplay overs.
“He (Warner) played beautifully. He used all the chances and got a hundred. He is a good batsman. He made many centuries in the ODIs and Tests also. He is a world-class batsman. It’s a beautiful innings from him,” said KKR fast bowler Umesh Yadav after the match. Sunrisers now have 13 points and sits at the third spot in the points table behind Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.
