So, it’s a replay of the first qualifier. It is the mighty Mumbai Indians who will take on the spirited Rising Pune Supergiant in the final of the 2017 Indian Premier League. Rohit Sharma would be extremely happy with his team’s performance tonight. The bowlers bowled well and the batsmen chased down the total with great precision. Even though Rohit couldn’t finish off the match, he got some runs under his belt and that would give him some confidence ahead of the big final.
Watch Karn Sharma’s spell here:
On the other, KKR has only themselves to blame for this loss. There was some bizarre team selection which was followed by poor batting. Leaving Yusuf Pathan for this important match didn’t make much sense so didn’t making Kuldeep Yadav warm the bench. The batsmen had left too much for the bowlers to do. A very promising campaign came to an end tonight and the focus now shifts to Sunday when Pune will take on Mumbai in the Maharashtra derby. Don’t forget to join us for that game!
Here are highlights from MI vs KKR 2nd Qualifier:
11:00 PM: That’s it! Mumbai wins the match by 6 wickets!
10:53 PM: Just 11 runs needed now. Mumbai can smell the final and they deserve to be there.
10:47 PM: OUT! Rohit Sharma is caught on the boundary. Is there another twist in the tale? With just 20 runs needed, can KKR pull off a miracle!
10:40 PM: This partnership is taking the match away from KKR faster than expected. Krunal Pandya has raced his way to 26 runs from just 16 balls and Rohit Sharma is looking full of confidence as well.
10:30 PM: Good over for Mumbai, less than 50 runs needed now. The score moves on to 60/3 in the 9th over.
10:25 PM: Krunal Pandya is batting sensibly at the moment. He just needs to hang in with Rohit Sharma. The target isn’t that big and nothing fancy is needed at this moment.
10:15 PM: OUT! Gone! That’s 3rd down for Mumbai Indians. Amabti Rayudu departs for 6, Piyush Chawla gets his second. It’s game on in Bengaluru.
10:05 PM: A mixed start for Mumbai Indians. They have lost two important wickets within first three overs and that’s when you start to feel, what if KKR had scored 25 runs more!
9:50 PM: The batsmen are out for the run chase. Parthiv Patel is in the middle with Lendl Simmons while Umesh Yadav has the new ball.
9:40 PM: That’s it! Malinga gets the final wicket and KKR is bowled out for just 107 runs. Rohit Sharma would be delighted. This should be a cakewalk for Mumbai Indians.
9:30 PM: At the end of 18th over, KKR is at 106/9. Rohit Sharma would be really happy with its team’s performance tonight.
9:20 PM: Gone! Another one down! Piyush Chawla departs for just 2, Rayudu takes an easy catch. KKR – 94/7. Nathan Coulter Nile is the new man in and he starts with a monstrous six.
9:10 PM: OUT! Big wicket! Ishank Jaggi has to go and Karn Sharma strikes again. He goes for 28 and the score is now 87/6. The decision of playing Sharma Harbhajan Singh has paid off.
9:08 PM: Both the batsmen have put their feet on the peddle. The runs are coming thick and fast now. If KKR goes past 150, we have a game in our hands.
9:02 PM: Lasith Malinga comes into the attack and Jaggi welcomes him with a four. He is looking in good touch and KKR needs him to carry on.
8:57 PM: KKR – 61/5 (12 overs)
Ishank Jaggi – 17 (23)
Suryakumar Yadav – 14 (12)
8:54 PM: This is a good phase for KKR, at leas going by what has happened so far. The score is past 50 and noth Jaggi and Yadav are looking good at the crease but they need to up the run-rate.
8:45 PM: KKR – 39/5 (9 overs)
Ishank Jaggi – 5 (13)
Suryakumar Yadav – 4 (4)
8:40 PM: It has been a nightmare of a start for Kolkata Knight Riders. They have crossed the 50-run mark and half of the side is back in the dugout.
8:35 PM: OUT! Another one goes, this time it’s Colin de Grandhomme. KKR – 31/5 after 7 overs. KKR is in huge trouble now. Krunal Pandya comes into the attack and what a time it is to bowl.
8:33 PM: OUT! Gambhir departs, Karn Sharma gets the wicket. He looked furious, it was a loose stroke and Gambhir knew it.
8:32 PM: A lot will depend on how Gambhir bats from here. Remember, there is no Yusuf Pathan in the playing XI for this match. So, the lower order doesn’t have that much firepower.
8:25 PM: OUT! Another one down for KKR. Uthappa goes for 1, Jasprit Bumrah strikes again. Mumbai on top of this game. Ishank Jaggi is the new batsman.

8:23 PM: Robin Uthappa is the new man in. He is the in-form batsman for KKR and will have to take the responsibility. Narine scored 10, he would be disappointed.
8:20 PM: First sign of spin, Karn Sharma comes into the attack. With two leg-handers at the crease it will be an interesting move. OUT! He gets the wicket of Sunil Narine.
8:12 PM: A slow start for KKR and that has to do a lot with the early wicket of Chris Lynn but Gambhir is out in the middle and he can control the innings from here:
KKR – 13/1/0 (3 overs)
Gautam Gambhir – 3 (7)
Sunil Narine – 3 (4)
8:07 PM: GONE! OUT! Lynn hit that one straight on Pollard’s hands. Jasprit Bumrah strikes in his first over, Rohit Sharma is happy and so is his team.
8:04 PM: Jasprit Bumrah will start from the other end. He’ll have a big role to play in this game, especially in the death overs.
8:01 PM: Good start Mumbai Indians except for slight misfield from Lasith Malinga:
KKR – 3/0 (1 over)
Chris Lynn – 3 (6)
Sunil Narine – 0 (0)
7:58 PM: So, we are live and it is that opening pair once again. Sunil Narine will open the batting alongside Chris Lynn. Mitchell Johnson starts for Mumbai Indians.
7:55 PM: With chances of rain, the team batting second will have an advantage. KKR needs to put as many as runs on the board as possible.
7:32 PM: Here are the playing XIs:
Mumbai Indians – Lendl Simmons, Parthiv Patel(w), Rohit Sharma(c), Ambati Rayudu, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Karn Sharma, Mitchell Johnson, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga.
Kolkata Knight Riders – Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Gautam Gambhir(c), Robin Uthappa(w), Ishank Jaggi, Suryakumar Yadav, Colin de Grandhomme, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Piyush Chawla, Umesh Yadav, Ankit Rajpoot
7:30 PM: Rohit Sharma wins the toss, elects to bowl first. Mitchell Johnson comes in for Mumbai Indians.
6:40 PM: Ambati Rayudu and Nitish Rana were seen batting in adjacent nets earlier in the day. However, there is a place for only one of them in the playing XI. It will be interesting to see who the team management goes for.
6:20 PM: This is what happened when these two giants met last time in this season. Fans would be hoping for a similar game but there are chances of rain at Bengaluru:
