Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh raised the issue of smog and pollution in Delhi after Mumbai Indians’ emphatic win over Delhi Daredevils on Saturday night at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. Harbhajan who was one of the star performers in the huge victory took to Twitter and said that ‘it was almost impossible’ to breathe on the ground while congratulating his team for the win. “Top win @mumbaiindians last night..Delhi Pollution, smog it was almost impossible to breath last night in the ground????????????????????all players were suffering with bad throat after the game #almost choked,” wrote Harbhajan on Instagram.

In a couple of more posts on Twitter, Harbhajan said ‘conditions were not very conducive for a match’. “A large amount of smog made it really difficult for the players. As well as the audience to breathe. This should not be neglected and measures should be taken to reduce it in the future,” his tweet read. This isn’t the first time when a cricket match has been affected because of pollution in Delhi. Earlier, a Ranji match between Gujarat and Bengal which was scheduled to take place in November 2016 had to be moved away from Delhi due to the high level of pollution and smog, said an Indian Express report.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians became the first side to qualify for the IPL Playoffs after bulldozing the hosts Delhi Daredevils by 146 runs in a one-sided match on Saturday. Batting first, Mumbai scored 212 runs for the loss of three wickets and West Indian duo Lendl Simmons and Keiron Pollard struck blazing half-centuries before bowlers put up a magnificent show and bowled out Delhi Daredevils for just 66 runs. “There is nothing much you can do. When I was on the field, I felt that they batted well. We had our plans, we started well, we stuck to the plan, but the partnership between Lendl and Pollard took the game away from us,” Zaheer Khan said after the loss.
