World number one Serena Williams has brushed aside the pressure of completing a calendar-year Grand Slam, insisting that she is eager to compete for her fourth successive US Open title starting Monday on the New York hard-courts.
The 33-year-old Serena Williams is considered as the favourite to lift the year’s final Grand Slam as she is aiming to complete the first calendar-year Grand Slam since Steffi Graf in 1988 by winning her 22nd career major title.
On the eve of the event, Serena said that she decided to have the pressure of completing the calendar slam than the pressure of not winning, Sport24 reported.
Serena Williams added that she didn’t care if she would win or lose but insisted that she was ready to start and get it over with and go on to the next event.
Serena will begin her US Open campaign when she will take on Russian challenger Vitalia Diatchenko in the opening round of the women’s singles on Tuesday.
