World number two Andy Murray, who inspired Great Britain to their first Davis Cup title in 79 years last month, has bagged the coveted BBC Sports Personality of the Year award for 2015 in Belfast.

The 28-year-old, who has been voted second time in three years, said that he had not been expecting to win the award, adding that he felt very humbled to be up there in front of so many great athletes, Sport24 reported.

The two-time Grand Slam champion, who won Olympic gold in 2012, admitted that he had never thought Britain would comeback from the bottom level to be ranked number one side in the Davis Cup.

Rugby player Kevin Sinfield finished second ahead of third-placed Jessica Ennis-Hill, who was crowned world heptathlon champion in August.
