Shuttler Ashwini Ponnappa, who clinched the Canada Open women’s doubles title with partner Jwala Gutta, said here on Wednesday that her recent victory has given a boost to her confidence.
“It feels really great, very encouraging and has given us a lot of confidence. Jwala and I had decided once we get on court depending how match is going to be, we’ll play accordingly, that’s what we did,” Ponnappa told ANI.
Meanwhile, Gutta, who hopes for increased support from the government after the pair’s success, said she hoped that her win would inspire other children to take up doubles seriously.
The duo won the doubles title after upstaging the top-seeded Dutch pair of Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek in the summit clash in Calgary, Canada.
The 2010 Commonwealth Games gold-medallist pair triumphed 21-19, 21-16.
