The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the media rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL) are up for sale, and the Invitation to Tender (ITT) will be released on July 21. PTI reported that the bid submission’s deadline is August 28. Earlier, BCCI had sold the title rights to Chinese mobile handset manufacturer Vivo, and event rights to IMF for a generous amount. BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary in a statement said, “The IPL Governing Council at its meeting held on July 11, 2017, evaluated the IPL Media Rights ITT and reconfirmed that the existing BCCI tender process is the best approach, both in terms of absolute transparency and a free and fair price discovery, for the IPL Media Rights.”
Through the media rights, digital platforms and TV channels would be able to air the matches, garnering huge viewership. In 2016, about 18 companies applied for the bids. “The entities that had purchased the tender documents of the IPL Media Rights, which was earlier scheduled to be held on October 25, 2016, will be provided with the tender documents of present IPL Media Rights on its release without any additional cost/charges,” the BCCI statement added. All clarifications will be attended to till August 5 and the last date for buying the ITT document is August 28, according to the report.
