Bengaluru rains today: Heavy downpour brings city to halt; IMD forecasts more woe for next 24 hours

  • 1) After Hyderabad, Bengaluru experienced extreme water-logging as rain returned to lash the city on Wednesday evening - it brought traffic to a standstill in a number of places as can be seen through Google Maps. The Director of Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre GS Srinivas Reddy told Times of India that based on satellite images, the department alerted the BBMP on the possibility of heavy rains and flooding on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.   • 2) The heavy rain on Wednesday night which continued till next morning flooded east, south, and central parts of the city, as per SkyMet Weather report. Reddy went on to say that as of 9 pm on Wednesday, north Bengaluru had experienced over 50mm of rain, and 30mm in city's southern and eastern parts. (ANI)

  • 3) The Indian Meteorological Department's Palace Road observatory had recorded 12.4mm rain till 8.30 pm. Skymet also said on Twitter that, Bengaluru witnessed 18.6 mm of rain which will continue for the next 24 hours. The TOI report added, as of 9.30pm, the BBMP control room received two complaints on tree falls One in Chamarajpet, and the other near the railway underpass in Seshadripuram. (ANI)

  • 4) MB Rajegowda, agrometeorologist, University of Agricultural Sciences said the southwest monsoon is retreating and by the third week of October it will leave Karnataka. Due to this, there is higher precipitation in the southern and eastern parts of the state, with rain continuing for 3-4 days. (ANI)

  • 5) On Twitter, one user posted,"2 hours of rain in Bengaluru, google map of the entire city is painted red! Traffic heavy on waterlogged roads!" Bengaluru Police has been deployed and were seen helping the affected. (Twitter)
