PM Narendra Modi meets Navy women officers selected for Navika Sagar Parikrama, wishes them luck

    Six women officers of the Indian Navy who are the part of "Navika Sagar Parikrama" (expedition) today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The officers will be circumnavigating the globe on the sailing vessel, INSV Tarini. The prime minister has conveyed his good wishes to the naval officers. PM Modi asked the women officers to "project India’s capabilities and strengths across the world." This will be the first all-women crew to circumnavigate the globe. The group will begin its journey later this month from Goa and expected to return by March 2018. (

  • The expedition is titled as Navika Sagar Parikrama. Six women officers of the crew met PM Modi. The expedition will be covered in five legs, with stop-overs at 4 ports: Fremantle (Australia), Lyttleton (New Zealand), Port Stanley (Falklands), and Cape Town (South Africa). (

  • The team will begin the voyage later this month from Goa, and expected to return by March 2018. (

  • The vessel, INSV Tarini, will be led by Lt Commander Vartika Joshi, and the crew comprises Lt. Commanders Pratibha Jamwal, P Swathi, and Lieutenants S Vijaya Devi, B Aishwarya and Payal Gupta. (

  • PM Modi wished the women crew and said he would keep track of their progress around the world. He also encouraged them to write and share their experiences, after the successful completion of the voyage. (
