They have charmed you on the silver screen. You have laughed with them, cried with them, have been to beautiful foreign sojourns with them singing heart-touching songs in exotic locales, have felt the anger while they beat villains. But do you know that several of these Bollywood actors have also ventured out, diversified and grown out of their comfort zones despite being very successful in their own field. We bring to you nine bollywood actors who have shown a natural flair for business with their investments or active roles in running successful businesses.
Shah Rukh Khan, or King Khan, the second richest actor in the world, is considered one among the biggest superstars Bollywood has ever produced. Just like his movies, the Shahrukh Khan’s business ventures too are as flashy and glamorous. The ‘Baadshah’ of Bollywood owns the IPL cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders with his long-time friend and fellow bollywood actor Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta. He also runs a popular movie production house Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd, alongwith his wife Gauri Khan. Apart from movies and cricket, Shahrukh Khan has also invested in a futuristic business -- another venture which is already quite popular with its customers -- with a stake in the Indian franchise of KidZania, which is an international chain of family entertainment and children's activity centres.
Ajay Devgn has seen a phenomenal rise in his acting career beginning as a stunt action hero in Phool Aur Kaante. His career took quite a turn with a much acclaimed performance in the drama film Zakhm, for which he bagged the prestigious National Award for Best Actor. Since then he hasn’t looked back, and is now among the highest paid bollywood actors. As for his business ventures, Ajay Devgn is one of the investors in the Charanka Solar Park in Gujarat. Ajay Devgn has invested crores of rupees along with Roha Group in the 25 MW plant.
Shilpa Shetty, one of the most glamorous bollywood actresses, has not been seen in a feature film in recent years, specially after her marriage to the businessman Raj Kundra. But the gorgeous beauty is busy with her own business ventures. Shilpa opened her first spa centre in Mumbai after her fitness and spa DVD series received much acclaim. She also owns the perfume brand S2 and is a co-owner of Indian Premier League cricket team Rajasthan Royals along with her husband.
Abhishek Bachchan garnered much appreciation when he essayed a character loosely based on the life of the super successful businessman Dhirubhai Ambani in the drama film Guru, which went on to become a huge hit. In real life too, Abhishek Bachchan has shown some business acumen. He owns the Pro Kabaddi League franchise team Jaipur Pink Panthers and became a co-owner of the Indian Super League football team Chennaiyin FC in 2014. Junior Bachchan is also involved in administrative operations of his father's company, originally known as ABCL, which later got renamed as AB Corp Ltd.
Action man Suniel Shetty mostly beat bad guys to pulp with his hands in most of the movies in which he starred in the 90s. In the real life, however, he is one of the smartest businessmen in the B-town. Being a fitness freak, Suniel Shetty runs a number of gyms across India. He owns a production house by the name of Popcorn Entertainment. Suniell owns Mischief, a series of boutiques spread across Mumbai, and also runs a few restaurants in the city. Suniel Shetty also backs ‘Beardo’, a company dealing in grooming products specifically designed for men with beards.
Preity Zinta is one of the prettiest Bollywood actor who has been a part of numerous hit movies. Preity Zinta co-owns an Indian Premier League cricket team Kings XI Punjab, which makes it her first business venture. Apart from her own cricket team, she also owns a production house.
Danny Denzongpa, the veteran Indian actor of Sikkimese Bhutia descent, who recently featured in superhit thriller ‘Baby’ movie series, has much more in the kitty with regard to work in the Bollywood. But unknown to a large part of the general public, Danny Denzongpa is an old hand at business and is a liquor baron in his own right. He owns Yuksom Breweries, based in Sikkim, which is quite popular in eastern India. Yuksom Breweries also has affiliates Denzong Breweries Pvt Ltd in Orissa and Rhino Agencies Ltd in Assam.
Ronit Roy, who is sometimes called as Amitabh Bachchan of small screen, has been steadily growing his presence in bollywood with some exceptionally good movies. But apart from the B-town limelight, he owns a security service called Ace Security and Protection. And his client list will surely amaze you, as his agency takes care of stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Mithun Chakraborty.
One of the hottest actresses in the Indian film industry, Sunny Leone made her Bollywood debut in the year 2012. She now calls herself as a businesswoman first. Sunny Leone recently announced that she is coming up with her own cosmetic line called as ‘Starstruck by Sunny Leone’. Sunny Leone, who sure knows the art of swooning men off their feet, claims that she is not just a brand ambassador, and has created this product line from scratch, including the creation of the logo and packaging also done by herself and her team.
