Chennai Metro: City gets maiden underground line; here’s what it looks like

    Chennai Metro: Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami and Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu have inaugurated the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation Limited. The ministers openned a 7.4 Km underground stretch of the Chennai Metro, reports NDTV. The stretch connects the Tirumangalam and Nehru park areas of the city. The line moves along the inner periphery of the city. The latest addition to the Chennai metro has seven new stations namely, Thirumangalam, Anna Nagar Tower, Anna Nagar East, Shenoy Nagar, Pachaiyappa's College, Kilpauk Medical College and Nehru Park, according to an NDTV report.     Chennai Metro: The minister added that the new metro line has many unique features for safety and convenience of passengers. The new underground stretch of the Chennai Metro is part of a Rs 14,600 crore project. The Chennai Metro Rail Corporation Limited already has two elevated stretches which run from Koyambedu to St Thomas and a stretch which runs from Chennai Airport to Little Mount.     Chennai Metro: An urban development ministry official told the Indian Express that proposed metro policy provides state governments with a host of options for the concession agreements with the Metro rail developer.
