New Mercedes Benz C Class Diesel-C220 CDI launched at INR 39.90 lacs
Mercedes Benz India has launched its much anticipated C Class Diesel-C220 CDI for the Indian market. The company has offered base Style variant at Rs. 39.90 lacs while Avantgarde trim is priced at Rs. 42.90 lacs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The petrol variant has been already launched couple of months back and is currently on sale. Initially, C Class Diesel-C220 CDI will be imported as CBU same as Mercedes Benz India did with the petrol version. This would be soon followed by local assembly. The new C-Class has been priced a bit higher due to the fact that it is coming as CBU. The major competitors for C Class Diesel-C220 CDI would be Audi A4, Volvo S60 and BMW 3 series.
For a lot of car lovers, Mercedes Benz C Class Diesel-C220 CDI or even the entire C series is seen as a toned down version of the S class as the former adopts the same design strategy of the latter. Therefore in many ways, C Class is a younger sibling of the S Class. This can be noted from the fact that C Class Diesel-C220 CDI is a lot curvier and edgier in its design which we have seen in S class models. The car has full LED headlamps with daytime running lights and LED tail lamps. The front portion is extended with twin slate grille that has the Mercedes Benz logo embedded on it. Rear profile is just a fascimile of S-Class. As far as dimensions go, the sedan is 95mm longer, 40mm wider and 5mm shorter than its predecessor.
The interior of C Class Diesel-C220 CDI is every bit luscious and premium as the exterior with new dashboard design along with a 8.4 inch touch screen powered by company's COMAND infotainment system. The touchpad has a newer technology compared to previous Mercedes Benz vehicles. There is a scroller as well that allows users to go through various options on the display with ease and comfort. The vehicle is pretty well stacked up in the safety department with parking camera alongside park assist, ARS, ABS, seven airbags, etc.
Under the hood, Mercedes Benz C Class Diesel-C220 CDI is backed by a 2143cc turbocharged diesel motor whereas the power generated by this 2.1 litre engine reaches up to 170bhp and the torque achieved is 400Nm. The 7-speed torque converter automatic transmission system transfers the power to the rear wheel of the car giving more stability to the vehicle at high speed. As far as performance is concerned, Mercedes Benz C Class Diesel-C220 CDI reaches the 100kmph mark in 7.6 seconds while the top speed that the sedan can attain is 233kmph. Employing a fuel efficient engine under the bonnet, the car gives ARAI certified mileage of 19.27kmpl.
Comparatively, Audi A4 gives a tight competition with a 2 litre 16V TDI diesel engine under its belt that has a displacement of 1968cc churning out maximum power of 174.33bhp at 4200rpm and torque of 380Nm at 1750 to 2500rpm. The vehicle has four cylinders with 4-valve each and has a 8-speed automatic transmission system. Mercedes Benz C Class Diesel-C220 CDI beats Audi A4 by just a whisker as far as speed is concerned with the latter reaching 100kmph in 7.9 seconds and hitting a top speed of 222kmph.
Another serious competitor that Mercedes Benz C Class Diesel-C220 CDI have is BMW 3 Series. It has a 2 litre 16V diesel engine that features a displacement of 1995cc producing power of 184bhp at 4000rpm and a torque of 380Nm at 1750-2750rpm. The vehicle attains a top speed of 235kmph and reaches the 100kmph mark in 7.9 seconds. So it is safe to assume that the contest would be a fascinating one indeed with all the credible brands looking good to give each other a stiff fight.
