Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a day long visit to Uttar Pradesh launched solar-powered e-boats, e-rickshaws in Varanasi. He also launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in Ballia. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is an NDA government scheme that aims to provide 5 crore free cooking (LPG) connections to below-poverty-line families over the next three years.
Reaching out to the backward fishermen and boatmen communities (kevat, nishad, machchuara) in Varanasi and addressing them as "brothers", the Prime Minister said his government is "for the poor".
He also sought support from the people of Varanasi to keep the city and its ghats clean. "My Kashi will be clean - can we not take this vow together? We, the people, have to do this, not the government or anybody else," he said. We sum up PM Modi's UP visit in these eight images: (PIB photo)
