    IPL 2016 auction: Australia's Shane Watson has emerged as costliest player at Rs 9.5 cr for the 9th season of IPL T20 while India's surprise package Pawan Negi was snapped up for Rs 8.5 crore - the highest priced Indian player. As in earlier years, the auction of players for the ninth season of IPL T20 was an intense bidding war between team owners, with equal demand for marquee, as well as new players. Eight teams, which collectively had a purse of Rs 198 crore, bought 132 players at a cost of Rs 136 crore at the auction. (Reuters)

    IPL 2016 auction: Pawan Negi, who has just been named in the Indian team for the World T20 and is known to hit big sixes apart from his accurate wicket-to-wicket bowling, had a base price of only Rs 30 lakh. But the 23-year-old proved to be the most sought after, as Delhi Daredevils bought him for over 28 times the base price. (PTI)

As the two teams engaged in a fierce bidding war, the selling price crossed the Rs 5-crore mark. While Pune Super Giants bowed out at this stage, Mumbai Indians entered the ring and continued sparring with RCB. The Vijay Mallya-owned team finally snapped up Watson for Rs 9.5 crore. (AP)

    IPL 2016 auction: The Gujarat Lions and Pune Super Giants went into the auction with Rs 27 crore after they spent Rs 39 crore in the IPL player draft, which took place earlier.     IPL 2016 auction: Delhi-Daredevils purchased all-rounder Christopher Morris for a whopping Rs 7 crore. TS Sekar of Delhi Daredevils said, “Morris was always part of our plan. After eight years of seeing IPL auctions we can see that teams have become smart enough to know when to enter the bid and when to pull the plug. It’s not like you have a plan and you straightaway enter the bid, but you can enter late after seeing how many people can hold on to the bid.” (AP)

Similarly, the in-form English wicket-keeper, Jos Buttler, with a base price of Rs 1.5 crore, was purchased by Mumbai Indians for Rs 3.8 crore.
