Wind power generation capacity has increased by 3,000MW over the last year. Combined with hydro power, the share of these two renewable energy sources in the country’s electricity mix has increased significantly.

Making way for PSU operational asset sales
While NITI Aayog will submit a plan on divestment of government stake in certain PSUs, the government is encouraging CPSEs to look at options to divest specific operational assets, releasing their value for making investment in new projects.

Civil aviation policy take-off delayed further
Civil aviation policy roll-out has suffered setbacks but officials have dismissed criticism about the delay. According to an unnamed senior official, the ministry ‘overestimated’ its ability to bring together all stakeholders on board in a short time.

Lack of private investment chief reason for stalled projects
According to CMIE, in 2015-16, only 9% of projects were stalled due to lack of environment and non-environment clearances, and raw material supply problems, as against 33% in 2014-15. However, 33.9% projects stalled due to inadequate promoter interest, compared with just 2.4% in the previous fiscal.

The agreement to build a railway line includes providing $400 million worth of steel tracks. Apart from this, the Iranian President is also keen on Indian investment of up to $8 billion for the development of infrastructure in Iran.

Bullet train to start operations in 2023
The 508-km Ahmedabad-Mumbai high-speed rail corridor—with a 21-km tunnel under the sea—will cover the distance between the two cities in approximately two hours at a maximum speed of 350kph and operating speed of 320kph.
