Edit: Congress-mukt Bharat?

Though there were no really big surprises in the latest round of assembly elections, apart from J Jayalalithaa beating anti-incumbency for the first time in the state since 1984, the really big takeaway is that prime minister Narendra Modi’s dream of a Congress- mukt Bharat just got that much closer.

Even when it got a drubbing in the Lok Sabha in 2014, the Congress still ruled in 13 states; it is down to six now, of which only Karnataka is a truly large state—just 6% of Indians live in these six states. While the RSS has been working in Assam for close to three decades, illegal immigration from Bangladesh has been an issue the BJP has been closely associated with and the party leadership did get into important alliances with the Asom Gana Parishad and the Bodoland People’s Front before the election, the lion’s share of the credit for the BJP’s victory has to go to Rahul Gandhi. When dissidence in the party rose over the prominence given to Gaurav Gogoi—the son of the sitting chief minister Tarun Gogoi—in preference to the party’s rainmaker Himanta Biswa Sarma who was seen as the next CM candidate—Gandhi failed to act on it; the result was Sarma joining the BJP a year ago and helping his new alliance win a massive 86 seats thanks to an increase in vote share of nearly 10%.

The BJP and allies would be disappointed by just getting six seats in West Bengal, but its vote share is up to 11% as compared to 4% in the last elections—the party did get a 17% vote-share in the Lok Sabha election, but the two are hardly comparable. Though it got just one seat in Kerala, with a 15% vote share, up from a little over 6% the last time around, the erstwhile cow-belt party can truly claim to have gone national—without the Assam victory in which Gandhi played more than a small part, though, the BJP would not have been celebrating in the manner it was on Thursday, with the prime minister also coming out to make a statement. Perhaps learning from its debacle in Delhi and Bihar, the party projected a local leader in Assam—whose reputation flows from having successfully petitioned the Supreme Court to repeal the IMDT Act that helped illegal immigrants—and, with Modi just visiting the state three times, the focus was very clearly on local issues.

The victory comes as a shot in the arm for both Modi and party president Amit Shah whose magic was seen as waning after Delhi and Bihar setbacks, and possibly the party’s changed strategy will help in future elections. Whether the Congress will draw any serious conclusions from the losses remains to be seen—Sarma had harsh things to say about the treatment meted to him by Gandhi, on national television after the victory—but there is little doubt the changing composition of the Rajya Sabha that was under way even before these elections will make life easier for the BJP. While finance minister Arun Jaitley is confident of being able to pass the GST Bill in the monsoon session, the passage of the Bankruptcy and Real Estate Bills among 22 others in the last session—a total of 90 bills have been passed in the last two years—makes it clear the legislative logjam has been eased to a large extent.

No one working harder than the sick sikular congress party for a 'congress mukt Bharat'. Regarding all the misgivings for or against BJP well the political affiliations speak for the argument that aweather a corrupt system, the divide and rule policy, a policy where Hindu bashing is acceptable and there is much more to add.

So you say India was an undeveloped Country all this while and suddenly with the advent of Modi & Co it has started developing by leaps and bounds and which worries China is it. Even in the next 100 years we cannot reach where China is now. What type of mentality People have now a days. We Indians are most self-centered and selfish louts.

The closer we move to Congress-mukt Bharat the closer we will be moving towards disaster. BJP is a party with dictatorial tendencies and in an atmosphere where there is no strong opposition the country will be moving towards darker days.

The drubbing in Kerala and am have shaken up the leaders of the Congress party and one of the senior leaders have suggested for “surgery” and another one has called only for “medication” only, since the Congress is not in ICU. Another leader from Arunachala Pradesh had termed the leadership of Congress as “autocratic”. A senior leader from UP was disappointed for not getting appointment with the leadership for 13 times. Every time, when the Congress faces defeat, leaders call for changes. What changes it should do? Is it possible? There is no doubt that we cannot compare the Congress of today with that of Congress of yesteryears. The Congress party is more than 100 years old and it can be for analysis purpose can have two era-Pre-Indira-era and Post-Indira-era. After Indira hi had taken the mantle, she definitely had changed the characteristic of the party. She had divided the Congress party, disrespected all leaders who fought for our freedom, set one leader against the other and completely and imposed emergency. She was responsible for changing the basic character of the Congress. The Indian National Congress fought for our freedom and its aim was to liberate the country from the clutches of British Rule. During that time, the nation was vibrating with one goal and one mission and every one was willing to sacrifice their life for the sake of our country. No one cared for fame and name, nor they worked for pension. Even though Mahatma hi lead the freedom struggle, we had towering personalities all across our country and in each and every state. Even though we have not recorded them in our history book, there were many as great as Mahatma hi. Every citizen was willing to give up anything for the sake of our freedom. The great Rajaji, simple Vinoba, dynamic Tilak, enchanting Netaji, Sardar Patel, towering Gokhale etc have inspired our nation. Let us bury the sacrifices of Bhagat Singh,Tirupur Kumaran etc while discussing about secularism and terrorism. For want of space, I could not list all of them. In every street of our country we had freedom fighter. The nation was endowed with men with vision and integrity, honesty and simplicity and with sense of patriotism. Every name even now invokes in us pride and we feel like saluting them. We have not forgotten them, even though only a few leaders are promoted by the Congress. All others are bed as “regional” leaders and reduced to the foot note of our history. Have we recorded the sacrifices of freedom fighters? It seems to be the deliberate ploy of the Congress(Post-Indira Era). She created yes-men, who would raise slogan “India is Indira and Indira is India”. This was the lowest point of our history and this slogan has completely nullified the sacrifices of Congress party of Pre-Indira era. At this point of time, the Indian National 3333Congress party of pre-Indira era was reduced to Congress of post-Indira era. Mrsdira hi by one stroke reduced all the great freedom fighters to nothing. She completely manited the leaders at the various states for her own power and position. She imposed her will by throwing collective responsibility. The patriotism is not the test for leadership, but loyalty to her was the criteria. The towering leaders were reduced to dwarfs and they were bed as regional and she projected herself as “national”. To remain in power she was willing to do anything. The first act was to split the Congress, secondly she let loose factionalism in Janata Party and destro the party. Even though we talk much about Thirumangalam experiment of Alazgiri in Madurai, Indira used money power to dismantle the opposition leaders. She demanded loyalty to her and her family and every one was judged by that. When ever she was accused of corruption and nepotism, she raised national bogey. She destro opposition parties with precision. Whoever opposed her or challenged her were shown the door and reduced to zero. So Indira cannot take credit of Congress, what it did for our freedom struggle. The two congress are completely different. The pre-Indira Congress was without any political nature and it was not a party. It was a movement for our Independence and that was the reason why Mahatma hi wanted to dismantle the Congress after Independence. After Indira, the leadership fell on Rajiv and now everyone wanted his son to take the leadership and to continue the dynastic rule. Narasimha rao was accident of history and by sheer luck he became the prime minister. Many in the Congress party ditched him and side lined him by playing the role of Brutus. He was not treated as the Congress leader when he died. He was reduced to regional status. Manmohan Singh became the Prime Minister due to twist of history. His integrity was used as an et to rule the nation. But the centre of power was with the family.Since the days of Indira, there was no national leader in Congress and everyone has to report to the family to take any action or even to speak. No one can be called as national leaders. There are only two national leaders in the Congress-Sonia and Rahul. All others are regional leaders. No one have the freedom to speak and express their views for the fear of losing seats or their position. During our freedom struggle, we had leaders in the Congress, almost every one highly qualified and no one can question their integrity and honesty. Tilak, Patel, Tagore, Rajaji, and endless are men and women, whose knowledge about India was high. They lead a simple life and honest life. Today, the Congress leaders lead a life of luxury and live like British queen. Mrs. Indira was interested in keeping her position intact at the centre and this tradition was followed by her Son Rajiv and still it continuous. To remain in power, the Congress compromised with DMK in Tamilnadu, muslim league in Kerala and so on. Today the Congress party is reduced to regional status and it appears to have lost its national lustre. The Congress party has completely lost its link with the people. Instead of uniting the country, it raised the bogey of secularism, concept of minority and majority and Indian-ness is lost due to this political tactics of Congress. If Congress has to become national, first it should stop finding fault with BJP and put an end to Modi-bashing. Secondly let it not make again and again secularism card and minorities bogey. The Congress should be people-centric, but not family-centric. The family-centric party can create only yes-men, but people-centric would bring back the glories of Congress of pre-Indira era. You cannot look upon every state as regional and leaders from the states are not servants of a dynastic family. The Congress cannot contest election in Tamilnadu without the support of Dravidian party. It is wiped out from Orissa, lives on supporting devices in Maharashtra, gone from Telangana, routed in Andhra and the story is not different in other states. You need leaders from every state and party cannot grow, if a leader has to wait for 13 months to see its supremo.
