WTO panel to set up 7 bodies for new round of talks

  The World Trade Organisation’s trade negotiations committee, which held its first session in Geneva on January 28 agreed to set up seven bodies for kicking off the next phase of negotiations, which are expected to continue till January 1, 05.
Doha’s tech support clause crucial: Maran

  Technical assistance and capacity building have been envisaged in the Doha declaration and this is important for developing countries in respect of Singapore issues, stated commerce and industry minister Murasoli Maran on Tuesday.

  The advisory council on international trade on WTO matters will meet here on Tuesday against the backdrop of the Doha declaration and the tasks ahead for New Delhi and other developing countries at the new negotiations in Geneva under the WTO aegis.
India may drag Pakistan to WTO over denial of MFN status

  New Delhi believes that it is “expedient” to raise the issue of Pakistan denying the MFN treatment to it at the WTO review of Pakistan’s trade policy slated for later this month and take a final decision on dragging Islamabad to the WTO dispute settlement body in the first quarter of this year.

  China will emerge as a major market for Indian goods after its recent accession to the WTO, according to commercial counseller of the Chinese embassy Du Chengping here on Wednesday.
