Top Pharma, Biotech Cos Keen To Outsource $200 M Research “There are around 10 biotech and pharma companies (clients) that are considering outsourcing their work to India through partners or starting a greenfield project. Around $200 million work in pharma and related areas is likely to be outsourced to India in the next 12 months,” Proximare managing director Nailesh A Bhatt told eFE.
“These companies are mostly looking at collaborative research outsourcing work to be done out of India. This work has immense opportunity for the Indian talent pool,” Mr Bhatt said.
Proximare Inc specialises in helping pharmaceuticals, biotech, medical products and related companies design and implement business strategies.
The list of companies considering to outsource work to India include small to mid-sized pharma companies and biotech companies besides major pharma companies.
Some of Proximare’s clients include Merck, Bristol-Myers, Squibb, Warner-Lambert, Colgate-Palmolive, Sumitomo, InnoCentive and Pfizer.
“Most of our existing clients are keen on setting up research and development (R&D) work in India,” he said.
Proximare works with its clients to develop innovative solutions on issues ranging from sales, marketing to strategy and business development and R&D. The company focuses on sectors like pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical products, chemical, food, nutraceutical, cosmetics and e-health.
Collaborative research outsourcing (CRO) is likely to become the next big wave after contract research outsourcing, Mr Bhatt said.
According to a report on clinical research by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the contract research service market is estimated to be around $9 billion. “There is an increased global trend towards collaborative outsourcing,” the CII report says.
The global outsourcing pre-clinical work and clinical research accounts for nearly $13 billion. | ||||
