NEW DELHI, APRIL 26: With the UPA and the Left expected to meet for wider consultations on the OBC quota issue, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Thursday said the government could go ahead with the admissions in the general category in the IIMs and wait for the Supreme Court verdict on the OBC quota.
"We have taken a view that students should not suffer and the quota for OBC could be kept pending till the Supreme Court verdict is given while going ahead with the admissions for general category students", said Lalu outside Parliament.
Meanwhile at IIM-Ahmedabad, the wait is still on for a formal communique from the Union Government.
IIM-A Director Bakul Dholakia said on Wednesday that with the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs is meeting, a communique with clear decision can be expected only on Thursday.
“We decide upon the admission, only after we get a formal directive from the ministry,” Dholakia said. The last such directive was issued by the HRD ministry on April 19. “We’ll have to wait for the directive, before announcing anything,” Dholakia added.
Ashok Shah, Public Relation Officer IIM-A told The Indian Express that IIMs in their letter to the ministry on April 12 had already proposed that the general list be published first and depending upon the court’s directive, the second list of the candidates under reserved category may be brought out later. |
