NEW DELHI, APRIL 5: The pricey IIMs in India are not the only premium management educators in the country.
Almost striking a bolt from the blue for Indian School of Business, Hyderabad are five students who have outmatched their much-hyped counterparts.
An ISB alumni has crossed the Rs 1 crore mark salary package that a corporate is offering to pay for his services.
Whether the IIMs were shocked is anybody’s guess, but the fact remains that the ISB guys are laughing all the way to the bank (presumably, the IIM guys are doing the same, but ISB grass is greener!)
Perhaps the fact that ISB has a venture going strong with some of the world's best management schools has something to do with the sky-high salaries. ISB is an associate school of the Kellogg School of Management, Wharton, University of Pennsylvania and London Business School. US' President George Bush thought the ISB campus important enough to pay it a visit on his India trip recently. Today, its alumnae changed the world for its students.
No wonder it has a huge plug for itself running in ISB Insight where people are exhorted 'If you want to learn driving, learn from M. Schumacher -- BE A WINNER'!
In a story broken by ibnlive.com the placements going on at ISB have drawn mouth-watering offers for its alumnae, in many cases better than those offered to IIM grads.
While one ISB student has beaten the IIM, Calcutta record of Rs 99 lakh per annum offer (in 2001), four others have matched the best that the corporates paid to get the IIM-stamped juniors on board.
However, unlike the IIM officials, who went to town over the huge salaries that the IIM brand attracts, the ISB administrators are being quite chary about what their students are getting.
But, sources have revealed that the psychologically important Rs 1 crore mark has been broken and that the company concerned is not some Fortune 500 firm, but an Indian entity, as yet unnamed.
