VADODARA, July 18: Age bars should implemented and the number of candidates from each faculty should be limited. These were among suggestions floated during the meeting of the 16-member committee appointed to look into amendments for the M S University's student union elections.``The university's student union elections are generally held at a time when the university is about to close for vacations'', said one of the members. He added that the admissions were over only by October, and by the time the students were elected and decided to conduct activities, it was time for the Diwali vacations.
The members also pointed out that at present anybody registered as a university student could contest the elections. ``The student's age is not a criterion,'' said another member. He added that only students who were 25 years or less should be allowed to contest.
The members also suggested that students taking re-admissions should not be allowed to file their nominations for the elections. The faculty of Commerce had the most students but there should be attempts to see that there were nominations from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and the Faculty of Management Studies, the members said, adding that there was no representation from these faculties for general secretary and university vice-president.
