The motion proposing the candidature of Sequeira was carried by voice vote in the House and Speaker Pratapsing Rane declared him elected. The motion was moved by Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro and seconded by Mauvin Godinho.

Later, Sequiera was escorted to his seat by Faleiro and Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar. In the 40-member House, Congress has a strength of 23, BJP 10, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party four, Goa Rajiv Congress two and there is one Independent.
