Gujarat loses three more sons

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, JULY 8: Three more soldiers from the state laid down their lives in the freezing heights of Kargil. These include Hav Kantibhai Sukaji Kotwal of 12 Mahar, a resident of Kishangarh village, Sabarkantha; Naik Rajoti Shahji, also of 12 Mahar, from Doli village in Dahod and Sepoy Ramesh Vikram Jogal of Mevasa village, Jamnagar.

While the body of Hav Kantibhai was flown in here on Wednesday evening, the coffins of Sepoy Ramesh and Naik Rajoti will be brought tomorrow. The funeral of Kantibhai, who died in Mushkoh Valley, will be held in his village at 11 am tomorrow.

Naik Rajoti was killed in Drass sector on Tuesday evening while fighting the enemy. His body will reach Vadodara by an Indian Airlines flight around 7.10 am on Thursday.

The rain-soaked night was filled with the fragrance of tuberoses when the tricolour-draped coffin of Hav Kantibhai, Gujarat's eighth martyr, was brought here under the protective arch of the Airport office. The venue of the ceremonial salute was shifted inside to keepthe coffin out of the rain.

A resident of Kishangarh village in Sabarkantha district, the brave soldier met his end on the evening of July 6 when the regiment launched an attack in the Mushkoh Valley. Four jawans died when the enemy dropped a bomb on them. But they had killed 12 infiltrators before that, said Lance Hav Amara Bhai, also from 12 Mahar, who had accompanied the body.
