SAS NAGAR, March 30: Cricket fans with taste for history will find much to catch their eye in the newly redecorated PCA block and club. The association has procured more than 1000 photographs and reproduced them in poster size to create a sort of Cricketing Hall of Fame.According to PCA chief curator Daljeet Singh, the photographs include photos of leading grounds of the world, caricatures of past and present players, life-size photos of cricketing legends such as Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, Jam Sahib Ranjit Singhji, Prof D B Deodhar, W.G. Grace, Lala Amarnath, Sir Donald Bradman, Sir Gary Sobers, Sir Richard Hadlee, Ian Botham, Vivian Richards, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, all international teams, all the present and past India Test captains, photos of current Pakistan and Indian players, Punjab players who played for India, Punjab teams which won Ranji Trophies, players who have made centuries, taken five or more wickets or achieved Man of the Match status.
In addition, results of all PCA matches, citations, collection of cricket stamps, score-cards of India and Pakistan World Cup finals, various events organised by PCA at Mohali and miscellaneous pictures of all previous World Cups have also been reproduced in poster size and displayed.
Patwal, Nabhi to lead
K S Patwal of Survey of India and Nabhi Sahni of St Stephen's School will lead the Chandigarh men's and women's team, respectively, in the 28th Senior National and Inter-State carrom championship to be held at Nagpur from March 31 to April 5. Other members of the men team are Ramanpreet Pahwa, Jadgev Singh Mann, Rozerio Sampson, Baninder Singh and Mohd Tanveer.
Puneet Lamba and Palvi Piplani are members of the women's team. Ravinder Sharma will represent in the veterans group.
Mahesh Sekhri, NS Pahwa and DS Athani will accompany the teams as officials.
HAAA meeting
The annual general body meeting of the Haryana Amateur Athletic Association will be held at Hotel Monarch in Sector on April 4 at 11.30 a.m. according to association president Abhey Singh Chautala.
The new office-bearers will be elected in the meeting. Representatives of the 20 affiliated units are likely to take part in the AGM. The calendar for the 1999-2000 will be finalised during the meeting.
Sports school
Hoshiarpur: To promote and raise standard of the sports to international level 20 sports schools would be opened in the country to prepare 5,000 sportspersons for the 2000 Olympic Games being hosted by Australia, said Union Youth Affairs and Sports State Minister Uma Bharti here today.
She told mediapersons that Rs 2 crores had been granted by her ministry.
