The week-long cultural extravaganza of PUMBA (Pune University's MBA), Gandhaar '99, drew to a grand finale on March 5. In its sixth year of inception, Gandhaar '99, its organisers claim, was an endeavour to reflect the undying spirit of the soul. With `childhood' as its theme, everyone was invited to `soak themselves in the spirit of infancy and relive their childhood.'

The festival was inaugurated at the University's Ellis Park by V K Wagh, director of the Board of College and Universities Development.

The events were catagorised into Cultural events like light Indian Music, Western Solo, Antakshari and Group dance; Management events like Business and Advertising Quiz, Debate, Finance Game Paper Presentation, Case Study; General events like JAM, Extempore, Dumb Charades and Mad Ads and of course the all-time crowd puller at college fests, the informals. As part of the festival, colleges competed for the top spot in cricket and Football at the University grounds.

As the festival progressed through the seven days, participants got many avenues to come to the limelight and nothing could come in the way of the determined few who were creative, intelligent, had the gift of the gab and had the thought of winning laurels for their college, uppermost in their minds.

The ever-enthu, never-say-die spirit of the youth was invariably displayed at Gandhaar as every event was competed for in true sportsmanship spirit.

Right from getting sponsors like Thums Up, Close Up, Asset International, United Colours of Benetton, PCS Industries and Yazad Car Rentals to putting up a week-long inter-collegiate festival, with alacrity and efficacy, the credit goes to the students of PUMBA and the management for their whole-hearted cooperation.

The festival concluded with a rock-show by Strangers as the joint winners, SIBM and SIMS revelled in their moment of glory having worn the coveted crown as winners of Gandhaar '99.

Managing exports
The Sinhgad Institute of Management (SIOM) has organised a full-day seminar on `International Marketing - Issues and challenges' on March 12, with a basic objective of making students and professionals aware of the global marketing scenario with specific reference to India's export status, problems and challenges.

The seminar, to be held at the institute, will be inaugurated by Satish Tondon, managing director Alfa Laval (I) Ltd, followed by lecture sessions by G J Pherwani, D V Lonkar, M W Oke and P C Nambiar. More details can be had over phone on 536592.
