Three cases of torture registered

SURAT, March 7: The Katargam and Varachha police, on Saturday, registered three cases of physical and mental torture under section 498(a), 324, 506 and 114 of the Indian Penal Code after married women approached them with complaints.

While husbands of the victims suspected their spouses of infidelity in two cases and beat them up, the complainant in the third case stated that her husband tortured her with an intention of drive her out of the house.

A woman, residing at C J Apartments, Maruti Chowk in Varachha lodged a complaint in the police station on Saturday evening, alleging that her husband and his sister-in-law tortured her physically and mentally with the intention of driving her out of the house. The Varachha police have arrested both the accused and started interrogations.

In the second case of harassment registered at the Katargam police station, a woman, residing at Gotalawadi area, said that she was abused by her husband who even punched and stabbed her with a knife on left arm and threatened to kill her. The accused has been taken into custody by the Katargam police.

In a third case registered at the Katargam police station, a man was detained by the police for allegedly beating his wife on Saturday. The complainant told the police that she was beaten up regularly by her husband for the past many days as he suspected her of having an extra-marital affair.
