SURAT, MARCH 7: Senior Congress leader and AICC member in-charge of minorities' cell, Arjun Singh will visit South Gujarat on Wednesday. He will pay a visit to Bardoli and Navsari, besides Surat, where delegations from Valsad and the Dangs are expected to meet him.The local Congress leaders have decided to highlight problems dogging the city and the alleged failure of the police in maintaining law and order situation.
Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee secretary Kadeer Pizada and Surat Congress president Thakore Naik said the city Mahila Congress unit would hold a rally on March 8 against the ``inability of the police to crack sensational crime cases'', while the City and District Congress committee will organise a massive rally in the city between March 22 and 25.
Senior leaders Madhavrao Scindia and Ahmed Patel, GPCC president C D Patel and state leader Amarsinh Chaudhary will be present, they said.
Naik said the process of appointing office-bearers for the city, taluka, district and state congress committees had begun. ``Members have been asked to enroll themselves until the mid of May and all elections will be complete by August,'' he stated.
Criticising the city police department as well as the SMC, Naik alleged that the police department was deliberately overlooking the plight of displaced Bhagal vegetable vendors and inconvenience caused to residents because of the restrictions on luxury bus movement. Pointing out at the Nita Satbhaya and Sonal-Shilpa cases, he said the law and order situation was grim. He also quoted the recent court-room killings. Kadeer Peerzada questioned the delay in the case.
