CHANDIGARH, MARCH 7: A protest demonstration was staged by the residents of the Kajheri village at the site of demolition of the Anandpur complex.The residents protested the demolition carried out by the Chandigarh administration which led to the decimation of more than 100 houses in the area. They raised slogans against the administration and denounced the drive.
In order to intensify their protest, the residents have gone on a hunger strike. Today, Balwinder Kaur, Jatinder Kaur, Aanchal Paul, Vinod Kumari and Gurjit Kumari observed a fast in protest.
Naseeb Singh, the president of the Khajeri village association, said that the residents would observe fasts till their case was taken up by the administration and necessary action was taken.
On the other hand, the Action Committee of U.T. Villages has strongly protested the demolitions being carried out by the UT Administration off and on. Sita Ram, the joint secretary of the committee informed that the members of the committee would stage a rally at the ISBT on March 12 to put aross their point.
Meanwhile, the hunger strike by the residents of the Deep Complex entered its 54th day today.
Today, Romesh Sharma, Roshan Lal, Vijay Sharma, Rinku Kumar and Jai Singh observed the fast.
