Charges against MiC: Satam ready to quit

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, MARCH 6: Mayor Nandu Satam said here on Saturday that he would submit his resignation if Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray directs him to.

Satam, who returned from a trip to Australia, told reporters here that he was seeking an appointment with Thackeray on Sunday to explain to him about the various charges levelled against the Mayor-in-Council (MiC). "I intend to find out what is his opinion on the issue. After all, the final decision will be his," said Satam, adding that he was optimistic that he would be able to clear Thackeray's apprehensions about the MiC.

Satam said he and his council members will also meet Chief Minister Narayan Rane during the week to appraise him of the "misconceptions" being spread about the MiC and inform him on the various works and achievements met during its ten-month existence.

Pointing out that he had spoken to Rane today, he added, "Rane told me that he will not take any decision to scrap the MiC until he has spoken to us."

The Mayor initially denied thatMunicipal Commissioner Girish Gokhale could have written adverse remarks against the MiC in his reports to the State Government as he always maintained a good relationship with him.
