Star-studded show to highlight 50 years of Indian cinema

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, Jan 23: A star-studded cultural show highlighting 50 years of Indian cinema is being planned as part of the Swadeshi Jagran Manch programme at Pragati Maidan in Delhi on January 25.

Producer-distributor Pahlaj Nihalani, who is also president of the Association of Motion Picture and TV Programme Producers, has roped in filmstars Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Govinda, Salman Khan, Rani Mukherji, Chunkey Pandey, Javed Jafferi, Ayesha Jhulka, Neeta Shivpuri, Divya Dutta and Arshad Warsi to participate in the recording of a song written by Nida Fazli and rendered by Roop Kumar Rathod, Jaswinder, Sukwinder and Sonu Nigam under the direction of Adesh Srivastav.

Pahlaj Nihalani said the film industry being ``purely swadeshi'', there could be no better opportunity to highlight its achievements and the progress made during the last 50 years. Since the show was to be put up at short notice, it was decided to highlight the industry's progress through hit film songs, to be rendered by Parvati Khan, Pankaj Udhas,Gurudas Mann, Sukhwinder Singh and Jaswinder Nirula.

Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee will inaugurate the event while filmstar Shatrughan Sinha will be master of ceremonies. Nihalani added attempts were being made to rope in a singer of yesteryear to represent the `Golden era of Indian music' between 1947 and 1960.
