Nashik limping back to normal

NASHIK, SEPT 18: Life in Nashik district is limping back to normal after flash floods claimed 18 lives in the past week.

According to official sources, 90,000 cusecs of water was released for the Gangapur, Darna and Mukne dams which led to flooding in the rural areas.

The Chandori bridge and the Ramsetu bridge on the Godavari river also lay submerged.

Around 40 families of Saikheda village have been shifted to safe locations. The damage to standing crops and vegetables in Nashik district is estimated to be Rs 35 crore. Traffic on the Mumbai-Agra highway was disrupted yesterday due to the rains. Rail services were also affected. The authorities have arranged for buses to transport people to Mumbai.

A six-year-old boy died when the wall of his house collapsed at Aarai village in Satara district and in another incident, a youth was washed away in the Godavari river in Nashik city.
