Rizwan, Dogra star in Krishi Exports upset win

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, May 25: Uttar Pradesh batsman Rizwan Shamshad (80 not out: 15x4, 55 balls) and Sumeet Dogra (68: 10x4, 1x6, 50 balls) and their 136-run partnership for the third wicket in 16.2 overs helped Krishi Exports (Varanasi) oust last year's runners-up Delhi Police Sports Club by six wickets to storm into the semifinals of the 25th edition of Goswami Ganesh Dutt Memorial Hot Weather Tournament at the Hindu College grounds here on Monday.

Asked to make first use of the track, Delhi Police were dismissed for 167 in just 35 overs, Sanjay Verma top-scoring with 44. Deepak and Sumeet Dogra claimed three and two wickets respectively.

In reply, Krishi Exports made a disastrous start, losing their first three wickets for only 16 runs. Then Rizwan and Dogra put things in the right perspective with their century-plus stand that took the match away from the Delhi Police team. Both were very harsh on the bowlers and their running between wickets was a treat to watch.

Dogra was dismissed four runs short of the target but the team reached the target in only 20.5 overs.

Rizwan Shamshad was named the man of the match for his unbeaten knock.

Krishi Exports will take on Indian Airlines in the semifinal on Wednesday.

Brief Scores
Delhi Police Sports Club: 167 all out in 35 overs (Sanjay Verma 44, Inderjeet 28, Sumeet Dogra 2 for 29, Deepak 3 for 33); Krishi Exports (Varanasi): 168 for 4 in 20.5 overs (Sumeet Dogra 68, Rizwan Shamshad 80 not out, Sanjeev Kumar 2 for 28).
