GSHC to build houses for police

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, May 25: The Gujarat State Housing Corporation (GSHC) plans to construct 700 houses for employees of the police department in Vadodara in the next two years. The corporation has already constructed 200 houses for police personnel and a Rs 35-lakh community centre in Pratap Nagar police colony here.

The state government has granted a sum of Rs 10 lakh for police community centres to be built in various cities of the state, S S Khandwawala, GSHC's director said.

According to Khandwawala, policemen posted in remote tribal areas were facing acute shortage of accommodation. In order to solve their housing problem in far-flung areas, GSHC was making efforts to purchase vacant houses of Nasvadi Lalpur dam and give them to the police department. He said that hardly 65 per cent of the police employees had been provided government accommodation and that GSHC could build houses for them if the state government provided land and funds for it.
