10-yr-old dies in resort pool

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, February 15: A 10-year-old boy died after his leg got stuck in a water outlet of a swimming pool at a holiday resort at Panvel this morning.According to sources, the incident occurred when Akash Arvind Gadha, a resident of Vile Parle (E), had gone for a swim in the pool of Nisiland Water Island Resort, located between Khopoli and Panvel, at 11.30 am.

Akash was accompanying about 2,500 people belonging to the Jain community who had come to the resort on a holiday. Speaking about the accident, Amrit Shah, a relative, said that the water outlet wasn't covered. He said that it took one and a half hours to get the boy out, by which time Akash was dead. Akash's right leg was caught inside the outlet, keeping the four-feet high boy under water for too long. A doctor tried to fit a plastic pipe up Akash's nose but to no avail.

Shah's colleague Gopani held the resort management responsible for the death, saying the pool was not completely built and there was not a single security person available on thepool side. A case has been filed against the management and staffers of the resort with the Khalapur police station in Raigad district.
