Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin has apologised to the people of Bihar for allegedly using derogatory language against them after a young fan stole his cap during the Hyderabad-Bihar Ranji trophy super league cricket match at Jamshedpur last week.
  Army, para-military forces out in Assam
The Centre yesterday air-dashed two battalions of the Army and 60 companies of para-military forces to Assam to help conduct smooth elections even as militant groups stepped up their activities to sabotage the polls.

32 die in Coimbatore serial blasts
At least 32 people were killed and over 100 injured after a series of blasts - spread over 15 minutes -- rocked Coimbatore this afternoon, minutes before BJP president LK Advani was scheduled to address an election rally in this city. The army has been called in and shoot at sight orders have been issued after violence erupted in the textile city.

Mild tremors rock Koyna; no danger to dam
Minor tremors were experienced in some parts of Mumbai, as the impact of the minor earthquake recorded in the Koyna region of Maharashtra early yesterday morning hit the city. The earthquake at Koyna was recorded at 3.9 on the Richter scale at 6.30 a m.
Dawood's cousin shot dead
Hawala operator and cousin of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, Dilawar Ismail Antulay (38) was shot dead by three unidentified assailants at Goregoan (east) yesterday afternoon. The shootout took place around 1.15 pm on Jaiprakash Road No 1 opposite Harvey Industrial estate.
