Kanitkar to the rescue

S SANTHANAM
KANPUR, February 14: An unblemished 126, his 10th, by left-handed Hrishikesh Kanitkar and his three useful partnerships of over 50 helped Maharashtra reach 260 for six on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy Group B Super League match against hosts Uttar Pradesh at the Ordnance Equipment Factory Sports Stadium (OEF) Sports Stadium here today.

After Surendra Bhave won the toss and elected to bat first, it was expected that the team would make a tall score, considering their batting strength and the nature of the wicket which had a sprinkling of grass left on it. The hosts did well to contain the visitors to a moderate score and the visitor's were hauled out of deep trouble by Kanitkar.
