PORT OF SPAIN, February 14: Carl Hooper came to the West Indies' rescue again here today on the second day of the third Test, snatching the vital wicket of in-form England batsman Alec Stewart to leave the visitors 75 for five at lunch -- 84 runs behind the hosts' first-innings total. However, the morning's play was overshadowed by the controversial dismissal of vice-captain Nasser Hussain, who was sent on his way to the pavilion by West Indian umpire Eddie Nicholls, caught behind for a duck by David Williams off Courtney Walsh, despite the fact he had not appeared to have made contact with his bat.
However, Stewart, who had scored two half-centuries in the second Test, revived the England innings with Surrey teammate Graham Thorpe taking the score from 27 for four to 71.
England fast bowlers Angus Fraser and Andy Caddick took five wickets each yesterday as the West Indies collapsed dramatically for 159. England limped to 22 for two.
West Indies, sent in, progressed smoothly to 93 for one just afterlunch before their innings fell away swiftly.
