Rain mars first Test match

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
RAWALPINDI, February 14: Heavy rain washed out play on the second day of the FIRST Cricket `Test' between India A and Pakistan A here today and prospects of the action resuming tomorrow appear virtually nil.

After inspection of the pitch and the surroundings, the umpires called off play at lunch time.

With the met office forecasting more rain in the next 48 hours, chances of play being resumed were rather remote.

The disappointment of the Indians was reflected by team coach Krishnamachari Srikkanth who said ``there would definitely have been a result, in our favour, if playing time was not lost like this.''

Brief scores: Pakistan A 112 (S elahi 39, Basit Ali 29; D Mohanty 3-47, A Agarkar 5-34, N Madukar 2-16) vs India A 43 for 3 (G Khoda batting 25, Abbas Ali batting 13; Aaqib Javed 1-15, Fazal-e-Akbar 2-23).
