UPS, Gati sign MoU

MUMBAI -- UPS Worldwide Logistics Asia Pvt Ltd (WWL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of United Parcel Service, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gati Corporation Ltd, Hyderabad and Dynamic Logistics Pvt Ltd, Pune to form a joint venture company in India. The joint venture company will offer its customers a variety of logistics services, including warehousing, a delivery service network across India and supply chain management. Some of the value-added services will include management of warranty support programmes, return and repair services.

Hoechst Marion launches clobazum

MUMBAI -- Hoechst Marion Roussel has introduced a versatile anti-epileptic brand Frisium (Clobazam), particularly effective to treat chronic therapy-resistent epilepsy. Almost 10 per cent of all epileptic patients who do not respond to conventional single-drug therapy are expected to benefit from this launch. Clobazam does not have the usual side-effects like sedation, hampered cognitionetc. Additional professor of neurology, National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences, Bangalore, P Satishchandra said that Clobazam had been proven safe for use by children as well as adults.

Bogmalo launches timeshare product

MUMBAI -- Bogmalo Beach Park Plaza, Goa announced the launch of Holiday Club, a unique timeshare product which provides a member with a week's vacation every year for a period of 15 years. The resort is offering 1500 exclusive `Holiday Club' memberships and the inaugural offer is being made to a select group of Citibank Diners Club Card membership base all over India. The Diners Club offer provides a member with various value-added benefits which include up to eight free return tickets to Goa .

Travel Corpn gets tourism award

MUMBAI -- Travel Corporation (India) has won the prestigious Government of India Tourism Award for maximum foreign exchange earnings in category one for 1996-97. Vice President of India Krishna Kant presented the award to Jehangir NKatgara, Director TCI at a function held in New Delhi.

BSE unions meet on depository

MUMBAI -- The unions associated with various stock exchanges are likely to come together to form an all-India federation to appraise the situation after the formation of depository to various ministries, Suhas Mate, working president of BOI Shareholding Staff Union said. The union representatives of the Stock Exchange Employees Union, Mumbai, BOI Shareholding Staff Union and Share Bazar Staff Union held a joint meeting on February 6 to discuss the impact and implication of depository system on the employees engaged in the capital market. Santosh Ratnakar, vice president and Sanjay Samant, chief secretary, also addressed the representatives.

Thermax launches pure water

MUMBAI -- Thermax Culligan Water Technologies Ltd is launching Good Water Everflo, 20 litre packs of pure drinking water confirming to Indian and international standards as ISO and World Health Organisation. The water is packed in bubbleshaped bottles made of food grade polycarbonate and will be delivered at the customers doorstep on request. The bottled water is produced at the new plant set up at MIDC, Taloja at a cost of Rs 4 crore in association with Culligan International, USA which has presence in 40 countries around the world. Priced at Rs 55 for a 20 litre bottle, the cost of water will be Rs 2.75 per litre.

Origin Software sets up new unit

MUMBAI: Origin Information Technology India Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of the Netherlands-based Origin BV, has set up a global factory for advanced business applications programmes (ABAP) in India. The ABAP development factory will provide clients with a globally unified approach to project related development resulting in significantly reduced time. The company has also based its global service line Millennium update centre in India.

ICWAI ties up for accounting training

MUMBAI -- The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) has tied up with Fact BusinessAccounting Software to impart information technology based accounting training. The institute intends to combine its professional expertise in management accountancy with information technology.
