  Fleming authors victory
New Zealand claimed a seven-wicket victory over Australia in the third one-day international match of their ongoing cricket series yesterday. The match, played at Napier, saw Australia being bowled out for 236 after batting first. New Zealand, in reply, overhauled the total losing just three wickets on the way, with skipper Stephen Fleming contributing an unbeaten 111 to claim the Man-of-the-Match award.
  Kirsten, Sohail to lead
Two new Test captains -- both left-handed opening batsmen -- will lead their teams on to the field when South Africa and Pakistan meet in the first of a three-Test series at the Wanderers in Johannesburg today. Gary Kirsten and Aamir Sohail have both been called up at short notice due to injuries suffered by South African captain Hansie Cronje and Pakistani skipper Rashid Latif.

Akram may be cleared of betting charges
Ata-ur-Rehman, a former paceman, who played 14 Tests and 35 one-dayers for Pakistan, has denied having submitted an affidavit implicating his former captain Wasim Akram in a match-fixing scandal. This could well mean that Akram will be cleared of all charges. The Pakistani media also indicated that Akram could be cleared of betting, bribery and match-fixing charges.
Greentop greets Indians
India A will have to survive a test by fire when they take on a formidable Pakistan A side in their first four-day "Test" which begins in Rawalpindi today. A hard and green wicket tailor-made for the pacemen has made winning the toss vital and the Indian team management hopes they are lucky in that aspect to put in the rivals.

Hosts West Indies, who lead the six match series 1-0 will, however, be going into the match on a jubilant note.
Okerie winner subdues Kochin
