Tulsi, Doshi triumph

MUMBAI, January 17: Third-seeded Tulsi Mehta overcame a sustained challenge from unseeded Lizenka Periera to win the girls' under-12 title of the Chembur Gymkhana Open State-Ranking tennis tournament at the Gymkhana Courts today. Tulsi quelled Lizenka's aspirations with a 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (-7-5) scoreline.

Top seed Ankit Doshi exacted revenge when he beat second seed Sujay Mahadevan 7-5, 6-2 in the boys under-14 final. Doshi, an eighth standard student of Greenlawns School, had lost to Mahadevan in three sets in the under-16 quarter-final on Thursday. Megha Vakharia won the girls' under-14 title beating second seed Mayura Bandekar 6-3, 6-1. Megha thus kept her hopes alive of registering a double when she meets Mayura on Sunday in the girls' under-16 final.

Results: Boys' under-16 (semi-final): Anikit Joglekar bt Sujay Mahadevan 6-1, 6-4; 5-Gaurav Kumar bt Vivek Jhaveri 6-1, 7-5. Boys' under-14 (final): Ankit Doshi bt Sujay Mahadevan 7-5, 6-2.

Girls' u-14 (final): Megha Vakharia bt Mayura Bandekar 6-3, 6-1;Girls' u-12 (final): Tulsi Mehta bt Lizenka Pereira 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).
