CALCUTTA, Jan 17: A bomb scare at the airport, just two hours before the arrival of Greek president Constantonos Stephano Poulos gave anxious moments to security personnel this afternoon.A woman caller rang up the Indian airlines enquiry counter warning that there was a bomb in the airport.
Though entry of visitors to the airport had been banned from Thursday evening because of the VVIP visit -- extra security measures were taken immediately.
Personnel of the Bureau of Civil Aviation and bomb detection and disposal squad frisked the airport with detectors and sniffer dogs for any possible explosive.
The Greek president, however, arrived safely at 3:25 pm in a special plane from Mumbai. He was received by the governor K V Ragunath Reddy and other officials. The president will meet members of Confederation of Indian Industry and visit the Greek church and Greek cemetery tomorrow, before proceeding to Lahore en route to Athens.
