Another space odyssey for Glenn
ASSOCIATED PRESS
WASHINGTON, January 17: Thirty-six years after he became the first American to orbit the earth, Senator John Glenn is being granted his fondest wish: one more blast-off and fiery ride to where "the view is tremendous." He will become the oldest man in space when he flies a 10-day research mission aboard Discovery, tentatively scheduled to lift off on October 8. NASA officials decided to grant the 76-year-old's request, convinced by his arguments that he's the right test subject for research into the aging process. His flight comes years after his three-orbit ride aboard the Friendship 7 Capsule on February 20, 1962.
