  Sri Lanka share honours with a Silva streak
India yesterday lost the third one-dayer against Sri Lanka by 5 wickets. India, after winning the toss and batting first, made 228 in their 50 overs. Sri Lanka achieved the target in the 49th over, thanks to a masterly unbeaten 82 from Aravinda De Silva.
  Donald's pace sends the Aussies ducking for cover
Australia built a potentially match-winning lead against South Africa in the first Test today despite a top order collapse in their second innings. Leading by a commanding 123 runs from the first innings, Australia closed the day at 67 for four in the second innings. Earlier Australia had bowled the Proteas out for only a 189 runs.

Kiwis hope to make it second time lucky
The formidable Australians would be relying on their strong batting line-up to regain the Women's Cricket World Cup when they clash with a spirited New Zealand in the final at the Eden Gardens here tomorrow.

Purnima Rau refutes WCAI's charges
Former Indian women's cricket captain Purnima Rau strongly refuted yesterday the Women's Cricket Association of India (WCAI) charges that she did not give her best in the ongoing World Cup championship. She reiterated her statement that her ``dreams were shattered.''

If FIFA ranking is the only yardstick to measure success in football, then India have had a `successful' year. From last year's ranking of 119, India finished at 109 by Christmas.
