Orissa isle sale declared void

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
BHUBANESWAR, December 27: The Orissa government has annulled the sale deed of a portion of the Kalijai isle in the Chilka lake where the famous shrine of the same name is located. The recent action of the government followed strong protests by local fishermen community, leaders of different political parties and environments against the sale of 14 acres out of 28 acres of the picturesque hillock by the erstwhile ruler of Parikud. The state's Endowment commissioner had permitted the erstwhile Raja to sell a portion of the Kalijai isle to meet the expenditure of the temple.

The issue had been raised in the last session of the state Assembly and the state's law minister, Raghunath Patnaik, had informed that the government had started a suo moto revision case against the permission granted by the endowment commissioner.
