Saurashtra take first innings lead

RAJKOT, November 17: Saurashtra took a first innings lead of 143 over Gujarat as they were all out for 290 at tea. Gujarat were 48 for no loss in their second innings at stumps on the second day of the four day West Zone Ranji Trophy league match at the Municipal Corporation ground here today.Gujarat's Bhavin Mehta accounted for five wickets while Hiren Patel took four wickets for 56 runs.

Brief scores: Gujarat 147 and 48 for no loss. Saurashtra 290 (S Kotak 77, P Khakhar 60; B Mehta 5-111, H Patel 4-56).

Play washed out

KOCHI: Overnight rain left the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, the venue of the South Zone match between Kerala and Hyderabad, flooded. Hyderabad picked up five points from this match taking their tally to 10 from three games, while Kerala, with three from this game, have six from three matches.

Brief scores: Hyderabad 272 and 56 for 5. Kerala: 163.

Vasanth hammers 103

BANGALORE: A knock of 103 by opener Vasanth Kumar enabled Tamil Nadu to declare at 233 for five in their second innings, setting a stiff victory target of 369 for Karnataka on the final day of the South Zone tie.

Karnataka, resuming at their overnight 141 for nine in reply to Tamil Nadu's 281, were all out for 146. Sunil Joshi top scored with 43.

Brief scores: Tamil Nadu 233-5 decl (Vasanth Kumar not out 103, Tanveer Jabbar 41, Robin Singh run out 35).

Goa earn full points

VISAKHAPATNAM: Goa defeated Andhra by seven wickets on the final day of the Pepsi South Zone league match at Railway Stadium.

On a day when overnight rains delayed the start for about 45 minutes, Andhra were all out for 157, 32 minutes after lunch, adding 31 runs. Set to make 122 runs off 42 overs, including 15 mandatory, Goa coasted to an easy victory in just 35.4 overs.

Brief scores:Andhra 201 and 157 (S Suresh 4-35, S Khaleed 2-20, Gokulkrishnan 2-46). GOA 237 and 125-3 (S Suresh not out 85).

Narender cracks 229

NEW DELHI: Opener Narender Singh cracked an unbeaten 229 as Services declared their first innings at 429 for nine. Harpreet Singh then claimed five wickets to leave Jammu and Kashmir struggling at 114 for nine at stumps on the second day of the North Zone tie at Palam ground.

Brief scores: Services 429-9 decl (Narender Singh not out 229, Sarabjit Singh 58). Jammu and Kashmir 114-9 (Harpreet Singh 5-38, Arun Sharma 4-15)

Haryana take lead

GURGAON: Opener Jitinder Singh hit 127, his third century of the season, to help Haryana score 285 for four and take a 159-run first innings lead against Himachal Pradesh at the end of the second day of the North Zone league tie at Nehru stadium.

Brief scores: Himachal Pradesh 126. Haryana 285-4 (Jitinder Singh 127, Amarjeet Kaypee 80).

MP-Railways draw

INDORE: The Central Zone tie between Madhya Pradesh and Railways ended in a draw here today. Madhya Pradesh earned five points by forcing a follow-on on the railwaymen.

Brief scores: Madhya Pradesh 571 for 8 declared. Railways 282 and 165-3
