Advani vows to fight caste exploitation by parties

BANGALORE, November 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president L K Advani today said his party would fight caste discrimination and the political parties, which were exploiting various castes to gain political mileage.

Inaugurating the first-ever schedule caste, schedule tribe and slum dwellers convention of the BJP Karnataka unit here, he said the SC and ST community had remained the most deprived lot in the country during the 45 years rule of the Congress party. Reiterating his party's resolve to eradicate untouchability, he said the Congress and the Janata Dal had exploited the caste factor to promote their political interests. ``Castes and communities were meant for building family and human values, but this was exploited for political purposes,'' he said. The BJP Government in Rajasthan has launched ``anthyodhaya'' programme for the benefit of the SC and ST community, he said.
