CHENNAI, Nov 17: It was a wedding of a different sort. There was no fanfare and the bride, Padmini, was a rape victim while the groom, a CPI(M) activist of Cuddalore town in Tamil Nadu, who came forward to give a new lease of life to the widow.

The marriage between Padmini and Dhansingh was solemnised at function sans `purohit' or `mangalsutra' in Cuddalore town on Friday last in the presence of the CPI(M) former MLA, R Umanath, and his wife, Pappa Umanath, head of the women's wing of the party.
