[Details] The Indian Air Force has recently inducted Sukhoi-30 aircraft as part of a Rs 6,200 crore deal with Russia. In March 1996, we had also signed a contract with the Russians worth Rs 1,200 crore, for upgrading the avionics and armaments of MiG-21 Bis aircraft.

The bull by the horns

[Details] The government has responded to the adverse World Trade Organisation ruling on India's inadequate patent law by -- surprise -- setting up a committee to evolve that thoroughly elusive commodity, a "consensus". Sad to say, it is a bit late in the day for that. The dispute was in the WTO for a year.

Whose surrender?

[Details] The Veerappan affair stinks. Particularly disturbing is the dispatch with which the chief ministers of two states which can never seem to agree on anything managed to forge a nice rehabilitation package for the poacher. And they did it without taking their respective Assemblies into their confidence.
